Capacity Is Often More Valuable Than Productivity

Many organisations place significant importance on productivity.

It is easy to understand why.

Productivity influences performance, delivery, growth and the ability to achieve meaningful objectives over time.

At the same time, productivity is often supported by something less visible.

Capacity.

Capacity influences an individual's ability to think clearly, make decisions, adapt to change, support others and sustain performance over time.

It can be shaped by many factors, including physical wellbeing, emotional wellbeing, recovery, workload, environment and the wider conditions in which people work.

While productivity is often measured through outputs, capacity is reflected in the ability to continue contributing effectively over the longer term.

This is one reason why organisational health extends beyond programmes, initiatives or benefits alone.

The wider environment in which people work can influence how they feel, function and perform over time.

Taking a broader view can help organisations better understand the factors that support both individual and organisational wellbeing.

Productivity will always matter.

Capacity is often what makes it possible.
